Ukrainian drones struck the Omsk Oil Refinery, Russia's largest, in Siberia on Monday, July 6, 2026, and local authorities confirmed the strike, Reuters reported. AirVeto measured the refinery 2,215 km from the Moscow Oil Refinery. Fire Point later claimed a second hit on October 8, 94 days after the first.

Omsk's governor confirmed the strike and said most of the drones were destroyed

Ukraine's General Staff said the strike started a fire at the refinery, which it placed about 2,700 km from Ukrainian-held territory and close to Russia's border with Kazakhstan. Omsk region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko said Russian air defences destroyed most of the drones involved. He wrote on the messaging app MAX that nobody was hurt and that emergency services were working at the scene.

Reuters said it was not clear how much damage the plant had sustained. Its sources put the refinery's output at about 23 million metric tons of crude last year, around 460,000 barrels a day. Gazprom Neft owns it.

The sources give the date but not the hour. Zelensky spoke of the strike in his nightly address that Monday. In the same overnight period Ukraine's military hit the Ust-Luga and Vysotsk Baltic ports and targets in the Kaluga and Yaroslavl regions, Reuters reported. The Guardian noted the strike came on the eve of a NATO summit in Turkey.

Fire Point said its upgraded FP-1 drones made the strike

The Ukrainian drone maker Fire Point said its upgraded FP-1 drones carried out the strike and called it a record for strike drones, "not only in Ukraine, but worldwide." Its chief executive, Iryna Terekh, said Omsk had been one of two refineries in Russia's top 10 never hit by Ukrainian drones. The other is the Angarsk Petrochemical Company in Irkutsk Oblast, and both lie beyond the Urals.

Zelensky called the strike "an important achievement" and said "Siberia, too, is now within reach of Ukrainian precision strikes."

The General Staff gave about 2,700 km from Ukrainian-held territory in July, and LIGA.net's October report says more than 2,500 km from the Ukrainian border. AirVeto's own line runs 2,215 km west to the Moscow Oil Refinery, which drones also struck on September 20, 2026.

Fire Point reported a second hit on the refinery on October 8

Fire Point said on Telegram that modernized FP-1 drones hit the Omsk refinery again on October 8, 2026, and that a fire broke out. The OSINT channel Exilenova+ published photos and videos, and one video shows Russian air defences trying to shoot down a drone, according to LIGA.net.

October 8 came 94 days after July 6.

Wind over Omsk blew from the north-northwest at low level and from the north higher up

At 00:00 local time on July 6, the start of the day the sources name and the nearest hour in AirVeto's model snapshot, the wind at 80 m blew from the NNW at 13 km/h. At 500 m it also came from the NNW, at 8 km/h. At 2,000 m it came from the N at 23 km/h. At 3,000 m it came from the N at 17 km/h.

These values describe the start of the day, not the hour of the strike, because the sources give no hour.

This reconstruction is based on reporting by Reuters, The Guardian and LIGA.net, and on AirVeto's wind-model data for July 6, 2026. The distance is a great-circle line between the OpenStreetMap outlines of the two refineries. How the model is built is on the methodology page. Every drone and airspace event AirVeto has reconstructed is in the incident archive.
