Druskininkai plans to fill and launch a helium balloon from inside its new station building starting at 17:00 local time on September 24, 2026, according to FM99. Organizers describe it as the first balloon of its kind launched anywhere in the world, timed to give the southern Lithuanian resort town a new landmark ahead of the station's own opening.
The fill-and-launch process runs at least four hours, per the report. Whether it happens on schedule depends on the weather: organizers plan to confirm on September 23 whether conditions will allow the balloon to go up at the planned time. The station is at Gardino g. 1, Druskininkai.
A different kind of balloon over Druskininkai
