Moldova balloons, 7 Nov 2026 - one crossed in 7 minutes

Moldova's defence ministry reported two aerostats over its north on 7 November 2026: one from 09:15 to 09:22 local time, a second at 10:35.

AirVeto finding: The first balloon covered the 4.9 km between the two villages the ministry names in 7 minutes, 42 km/h, the speed of the 1,000 m north wind over Mosana that morning (41 km/h), and well below the 2,000 m and 3,000 m winds (60 and 85 km/h).

Moldova's defence ministry reported two aerostats, or balloons, in its northern airspace on November 7, 2026. The first was detected at 09:15 local time and the second at 10:35.

AirVeto's wind data fits the first one's pace. It covered the 4.9 km between the two villages the ministry names in seven minutes. That is 42 km/h, the speed of the 1,000 m north wind.

The first balloon spent seven minutes over Moldova and left near Elizavetovca

The Moldova Ministry of Defence release says the first aerostat entered Moldovan airspace near Mosana at 09:15. It left at 09:22 near Elizavetovca. The ministry places both villages in Drochia District; Wikidata lists them as communes of Donduseni District.

Elizavetovca lies 4.9 km south-southeast of Mosana, by AirVeto's measurement between village centres. A straight line is the shortest path the balloon could have flown, so 42 km/h is a minimum average speed.

A second balloon came in from the direction of Vinnytsia and left one minute later

At 10:35 a second balloon crossed the state border from the direction of Vinnytsia, in Ukraine, toward Trifauti in Soroca District. At 10:36 it left Moldovan airspace near Ruslanovca, in the same district.

That is 80 minutes after the first detection. The ministry's Air Operations Centre said it was continuing to monitor the airspace with the competent authorities and partners. Deschide.md noted that the authorities have not said where the balloons came from or what they were for.

Wind over northern Moldova blew from the north at every height that morning

At 09:00 local time on November 7, the wind near Soroca at 1,000 m came from the N at 42 km/h. At 2,000 m it came from the NNE at 41 km/h. At 3,000 m it came from the N at 86 km/h.

Over Mosana the 1,000 m wind came from the N at 41 km/h. At 2,000 m it came from the NNE at 60 km/h, and at 3,000 m from the N at 85 km/h. Only the 1,000 m figure matches the balloon's seven-minute pass. The balloon's height was not reported, so that match is a fit, not a measurement.

A north wind carries an object south. The city of Vinnytsia lies 125 km due north of Ruslanovca by AirVeto's measurement, so the second balloon's reported entry direction agrees with the wind.

It is AirVeto's first balloon page for Moldova, near two earlier drone events

Earlier Moldova pages in AirVeto's 2026 archive cover drones and one paraglider; none covers a balloon. A Gerbera drone fell at Cernita on September 24, 18.2 km from Ruslanovca. A drone exploded at Codrenii Noi on October 16, 21.5 km from Mosana.

This reconstruction is based on the ministry's release, reporting by Deschide, TVR Moldova, NewsMaker and Bytes Europe, and AirVeto's wind-model data for the event window. How the model is built and where it is reliable is on the methodology page.
