Moldova's three drone violations, 30 Sep 2026
Moldova's defence ministry logged three drone violations on 30 September 2026; two exploded, one a Geran-4 beside the G72 road between Brănești and Ivancea.

Moldova's defence ministry logged three drone violations on September 30, 2026, the first at 05:43 local time and the last at 20:45. The 10:26 drone's first and last tracked points are 159 km apart in a straight line, by AirVeto's measurement, so it flew at least 232 km/h. At the 400 km/h Moldova's defence minister cited, a drone covers about 273 km in those 41 minutes.
Moldova's foreign ministry said two of the three drones fell and exploded on Moldovan territory. Police identified the evening drone as a Geran-4 with a turbojet engine.
The first drone exploded near Hîrbovăț at 05:43
The ministry said a drone crossed national airspace around 05:43 and fell outside the village of Hîrbovăț in Anenii Noi District, where it exploded. Police said it had been seen about 05:40 above the city of Bender, Ziarul de Gardă reported, and found no casualties in their preliminary findings.
Radio Moldova reported, citing police, that the drone exploded about 40 m up, close to a civilian operator's communications antenna. Fragments spread across a radius of about 265 m. The antenna was affected, but communications services kept running. Hîrbovăț lies 61 km southeast of Brănești, by AirVeto's measurement.
A second drone flew from Lunga toward the north and closed two airspace zones
The ministry reported an unpiloted aircraft near Lunga, in the Dubăsari district, at 10:26. It closed the north and centre airspace zones. A later update put the drone on a track toward the north of the country and reopened the centre zone. The drone vanished from monitoring at 11:07 near Arionești, in Dondușeni District, and the north zone reopened.
In remarks that followed the 10:26 release, Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi described a jet-powered drone flying about 400 km/h, Radio Moldova reported. A drone at that speed covers about 273 km in 41 minutes, the time between the ministry's two points.
AirVeto measured 159 km in a straight line from Lunga to Arionești, which makes 232 km/h the minimum pace. The ministry's two timestamps mark the first report and the last tracked position, not a launch or a landing, and it has not published the route in between.
The third drone crossed at 20:45 and exploded beside the G72 road
The ministry said the object crossed the border at 20:45 from the direction of Șerșenți, in Ukraine's Vinnytsia region. It headed toward Slobozia Rașcov in the Transnistrian segment, then toward Țipova in Rezina District. Monitoring lost it near Brănești, in Orhei District. The centre airspace zone reopened at 21:07. UNITED24 Media reported the same crossing details.
By AirVeto's measurement, the track from Slobozia Rașcov to Țipova is 39 km and from Țipova to Brănești 33 km, a straight-line total of 72 km. The Slobozia Rașcov point is the village council's centre, so the figure is approximate.
Police heard a loud explosion near Brănești and closed the road between Ivancea and Brănești for a time. Their investigators found that the drone struck trees in a forest strip beside the G72 road, about 10 m from the carriageway, then fell and exploded. The main crater measured about 50 cm across and 30 cm deep. Trees showed blast damage within about 30 m, and two smaller craters lay about 15 m away.
Fragments lay within a radius of about 120 m. They included rear-wing parts marked "Geran-4", electronic units and a turbojet engine with heat damage. Police sent all components for expert examination, according to Ziarul de Gardă. UNITED24 Media carried the same police findings in English.
Moldova summoned Russia's ambassador, and the crash site drew a dispute
Moldova's foreign ministry summoned Russia's ambassador, Oleg Ozerov, on 1 October, NewsMaker reported, and handed him a protest note. The ministry said the country's airspace had been violated eight times in seven days, Ziarul de Gardă reported.
On 2 October, the administration of the Orhei National Park said its staff photographed drone debris, craters and charred trees at the Ivancea site around 11:50 on 1 October. It said the site was not sealed and the debris had not been collected. Police had said they collected all components and did not comment on the claim. The defence ministry said securing the site was not its job, Ziar.md reported.
The wind blew from the north-northeast as the evening drone flew south
At 20:00 local time on 30 September, the wind at 1,000 m blew from the NNE at 35 km/h. At 2,000 m it came from the NE at 33 km/h. At 3,000 m it also came from the NE, at 50 km/h.
The 72 km track from Slobozia Rașcov to Brănești ran due south, while the wind was blowing toward the south-southwest. The snapshot is from 45 minutes before the 20:45 crossing, and the drone's altitude is not reported.
Brănești is 29 km from Colonița, where a jet drone exploded twelve days earlier
This is the seventh Moldova page in AirVeto's 2026 archive. Brănești lies 29 km from Colonița, where a drone exploded on 18 September. Hîrbovăț is 24 km from the Kopanka drone crash of 12 July. Six days before this date, a Gerbera-type drone with a camera came down in Florești District.
This reconstruction is based on the Moldovan defence ministry's releases, Moldovan and Ukrainian reporting, and AirVeto's wind-model data for the event window. How the model is built and where it is reliable is on the methodology page.
