On Sunday, 12 July 2026, Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) officers detected a contraband drone flying from the Belarus-Lithuania border toward Daugidoniai village in Šalčininkų district. Anti-drone countermeasures disrupted the aircraft; it was found crashed in fields near Dimitriai village. The drone carried 200 packs of "NZ Gold" brand cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps, valued at €1,102 under full Lithuanian tax liability, according to the VSAT press release.

Video surveillance at Daugidoniai tracked the drone from the border into the district interior
VSAT officers identified the aircraft via the border monitoring camera system as it crossed from Belarusian territory and flew toward Daugidoniai village. The flight profile matched the standard pattern documented in southern Lithuanian incidents throughout 2026: a low-altitude, navigation-guided aircraft tracking from a border-area launch point toward a destination inside Lithuania. Border patrols were dispatched to intercept.
Anti-drone equipment cut the aircraft's control path; the drone was found downed in Dimitriai fields
Officers deployed anti-drone equipment in the path of the inbound aircraft. The drone disappeared from monitoring view after countermeasures engaged and was subsequently located in fields near Dimitriai village, where it had made uncontrolled ground contact. The cargo — 200 packages of "NZ Gold" cigarettes with Belarusian markings — was recovered at the crash site. At €1,102, the declared value reflects Lithuanian excise liability on cigarettes that carry only Belarusian stamps and have not cleared Lithuanian customs.
The 12 July interception was the third VSAT operation in Šalčininkų district in four days
The Daugidoniai event followed two separate interceptions in the same district three days earlier: the dual-aircraft landing at Padvarioniai outpost and the signal-override crash at Prūdelis village, both on the night of 9 July 2026. Three VSAT interceptions in Šalčininkų district across four days in July 2026 indicate sustained smuggling pressure on this border corridor — the same southern Lithuania stretch that saw the Druskininkai four-drone operation on 7 July one district to the west.
Over the first five months of 2026, VSAT had intercepted 22 smuggler drones on the Lithuania-Belarus border. The pace was already above the 2025 annual rate.
